A young man from Quang Ninh discovered the remarkable skills of his 82-year-old grandfather, who brilliantly revamps old and damaged items into unique creations.
Huynh Van Duc, a 24-year-old from Hai Duong, expressed his admiration in a recent social media post that captured significant attention. “During a visit to my grandparents, I was astounded by my grandfather’s ingenious designs. We rarely need to repair items professionally because of him. Here are some of his fantastic creations,” he wrote.
Duc shared images of his grandfather’s recycled inventions, including a fan made from an old television, a stove created from a microwave, a lamp fashioned from a fan, and a plant pot also made from a TV.
Each creation was beautifully crafted, visually appealing, and functional, showcasing the potential of repurposing discarded household items.
The post resonated with many, garnering nearly 15,000 likes, almost 2,000 shares, and an outpouring of comments. People were captivated by the grandfather’s innovative and heartwarming recycling projects.
Comments such as “I admire his creativity!” and “10/10 for eco-friendly living!” highlighted the appreciation from netizens.
In an interview with VietNamNet, Duc elaborated on his grandfather’s talent for transforming waste into art.
Do Ca Tung, at 82 years old, has nurtured his passion for upcycling for many years. Duc was left speechless by the impressive array of handcrafted items throughout his grandfather’s home, each reflecting his creativity.
“Every part of our house showcases my grandfather’s artistry. His collection includes everything from simple to intricately designed pieces. I truly admire his creativity,” Duc stated.
While he was still working, Tung would fix or repurpose damaged items when visiting his hometown. Now retired, he spends more time on this hobby, which he enjoys daily.
“My grandfather thinks throwing away damaged items is wasteful, so he enjoys giving them a new lease on life. It keeps him active and involved,” Duc mentioned.
Typically, Tung requires two to three days for a project, with more complicated designs taking up to five days. Some items are restored for full functionality, while others are redesigned as appealing or practical household goods.
Tung’s family fully supports his upcycling passion. His wife especially values and cherishes his creations.
“He often gifts his handmade items, like lamps and pots, to family members. I received a unique two-tiered fan that I absolutely adore!” Duc added.
Besides his creative work, Tung frequently assists family and neighbors with repairs on various household items, such as fans and TVs, and he does it all for free.
The item Duc holds most dear is the custom two-tiered fan his grandfather crafted for him. “I’ve traveled far and wide, but I’ve never seen another fan quite like it,” he laughed.
More than just admiration, Duc has learned vital values from his grandfather, such as patience, frugality, resilience, and environmental awareness.
