As reported by the Quang Ninh Provincial Military Command, an incident took place early at around 5 a.m. close to Hon Net, a well-known location in Bai Tu Long Bay.
The involved passenger vessel, registered as QN-5427, is operated by Tran Van Ty, a 34-year-old resident of Lien Hoa in Quang Yen Town, and has a capacity for 48 passengers. At the time of the mishap, it was carrying five workers.
Ty explained that the boat sank while all passengers were asleep, attributed to severe winds and elevated waves. The boat was originally tied to a self-propelled barge that was carrying an excavator bucket, which was also secured to the side of the HAPPY VOYEGER, a vessel registered in Panama.
Following the incident, Ty and three workers were rescued, but two individuals are still unaccounted for. The passenger boat has now completely sunk.
Rescue teams from the Quang Ninh Provincial Military Command, Ha Long City Military Command, Cam Pha Port Border Guard Station, and other agencies swiftly activated to locate the missing persons.
Authorities have successfully retrieved one body, and efforts to find the remaining missing person are ongoing.
On December 7, the Quang Ninh Provincial Military Command confirmed the recovery of the body of V.C.Q., a 63-year-old from Ngo Quyen District in Hai Phong, shortly after midday.
Rescue operations continue at the site as teams search for the last missing victim.
