As of July 14, Phu Quoc Island in Kien Giang province is grappling with a tropical depression that has triggered prolonged heavy rains, leading to flooding in various areas, notably impacting the Cua Duong commune.
To aid in the evacuation and rescue efforts in flooded areas, the Phu Quoc City Police Department has deployed 70 officers equipped with necessary tools to collaborate closely with local authorities in the Cua Duong commune.
Responding swiftly to a distress call about a pregnant woman stranded in a heavily flooded area, the police immediately transported Nguyen Thuy Kieu (26) to the city medical center for the birth of her child.
The Kien Giang Maritime Port Authority has officially announced the suspension of all ferry services from the mainland to Phu Quoc, Nam Du islands, and vice versa since July 13 due to unfavorable weather conditions. As of the afternoon of July 14, there have been no updates regarding the recommencement of ferry operations.
Ho Dac Thuan, Director of the Phu Quoc City Center for Culture, Sports, and Broadcasting, noted that the temporary cessation of ferry services for two days has left some tourists stranded on the island. Thuan assured that in addition to high-speed ferries, air travel to and from Phu Quoc is still operational. Continued monitoring of the situation is in place, with the commitment to promptly assist tourists facing any challenges.
As per the Kien Giang Meteorological and Hydrological Station, the Rach Gia – Phu Quoc and Tho Chau sea areas are predicted to experience widespread rain. West-southwest winds ranging from level 5 to occasionally level 6, accompanied by gusts at levels 7-8 and wave heights of 0.75-2.5 meters are expected.
