Following social media accusations made by the Facebook user “Jonny Lieu” regarding food safety concerns involving C.P. Vietnam, Mr. Duong Tat Thang from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development informed VietNamNet on May 30 that he promptly instructed local officials in Soc Trang to look into the matter.
Furthermore, specialized teams have been tasked to conduct a comprehensive examination of C.P. Vietnam’s operations in the Soc Trang area to assess the claims.
Mr. Thang stated that the findings will be communicated to the press once the inspection process is finalized.
Earlier that same day, a joint inspection team from Soc Trang province checked a Fresh Shop location run by C.P. Vietnam at 45 Trieu Nuong Street, located in Chau Thanh Hamlet of My Xuyen Town, My Xuyen District.
The Facebook posts from the “Jonny Lieu” account had alleged that C.P. Vietnam engaged in food safety infractions. In response, C.P. Vietnam issued a statement refuting the claims: “We assert that the information shared by the Facebook account ‘Jonny Lieu’ and the Zalo account ‘Ngan Tech’ is completely untrue and aims to damage our reputation.”
On the afternoon of May 30, an inspection team made up of members from various agencies—including the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services—conducted a visit to the My Xuyen Fresh Shop.
In a statement to VietNamNet, Lam Minh Hoang, the Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services in Soc Trang, reported that preliminary checks indicated the shop adhered to food safety protocols. All pork products were marked with veterinary inspection stamps, and physical inspections confirmed the meat was clean, free from chemicals or preservatives. The store also provided complete documentation about the origin of its food products.
Mr. Hoang mentioned that there are 52 centralized slaughterhouses in Soc Trang, where official and contracted veterinary personnel conduct nightly inspections and health assessments on animals. “We strictly monitor the livestock entering centralized slaughter facilities in the province,” Hoang emphasized.
