Authorities in Quang Ninh Province established several checkpoints overnight in their efforts to locate a suspect involved in a bank robbery that took place on May 29 at a BIDV branch in Uong Bi City.
Following the incident at the BIDV’s Yen Thanh Ward branch late on May 29, local traffic police initiated the setup of multiple checkpoints to assist in tracking the suspect.
A spokesperson from Road Traffic Police Team No. 1 of the Quang Ninh Provincial Police Department reported that three strategic checkpoints were established at key locations: Da Bac Bridge in Phuong Nam Ward, National Highway 18 at Yen Tho Ward in Dong Trieu City, and the Ben Rung Bridge roundabout in Quang Yen Town.
These checkpoints are operational overnight to prevent the suspect from escaping through potential routes.
At the checkpoint near Ben Rung Bridge, traffic officers are stopping and inspecting each vehicle and its passengers, including searching bags and personal belongings.
Witnesses reported that the robbery occurred late in the afternoon. After stealing the money, the robber exited the bank with a backpack and jumped onto a running motorbike parked outside, quickly fleeing the scene.
A male bank employee tried to chase the suspect while calling for assistance. “The motorbike was already started. The staff and some locals pursued him but were unable to catch up,” one witness recounted.
As previously detailed by VietNamNet, the robbery happened at 4:53 p.m. on May 29, and surveillance footage captured the event, which unfolded in approximately 20 seconds.
The video shows a man dressed in green, wearing a white hat and face mask, swiftly entering the bank with a backpack and what appeared to be a knife. He tossed the backpack over the counter towards the cashier.
At that moment, one female employee and two other women were present. The suspect threatened them, leaped over the counter, and seized a significant amount of cash before hastily exiting the bank.
