A new Spring season has arrived, bringing joy and freshness to the entire Vietnam. This Spring holds particular significance as the country celebrates the 95th anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (from 03/02/1930 to 03/02/2025). This milestone marks the start of a new development phase for the nation, along with a bright outlook for the future.

Throughout these 95 Springs, the Party has been the forefront leader of the working class and the Vietnamese people, guiding them through numerous challenges and hardships, achieving significant victories and noteworthy progress that have shaped the proud history of our nation.

The Communist Party of Vietnam was established in 1930, emerging from a unique historical moment with a mission to liberate the country. The French colonial rule since the mid-19th century brought harsh oppression, leaving the Vietnamese people in despair. Driven by a strong patriotic spirit, they engaged in several movements, including the Can Vuong movement and the Yen Bai uprising, enduring great sacrifices yet failing due to a lack of direction and unity.

Globally, the rise of the workers’ movement and the success of the October Revolution in Russia in 1917 brought hope and inspiration for oppressed nations striving for independence.

This exploration helped him realize that the plight of the working class stemmed from the oppressive nature of imperial capitalism. Driven by the desire for freedom and independence for his country, Nguyễn Tất Thành turned to Marxism-Leninism, seeing it as a pathway that connected national liberation with class and human liberation alongside the pursuit of socialism.

On 03/02/1930, in Kowloon, Hong Kong, a conference chaired by Nguyễn Ái Quốc unified several communist organizations in Vietnam, leading to the formation of the Communist Party of Vietnam. This pivotal move unified the communist factions under a single, clear revolutionary course.

The Party’s founding platform outlined the essential revolutionary path, addressing urgent historical needs and unifying all communist organizations and revolutionary forces in Vietnam, marking a new chapter in the country’s struggle for independence and socialism.

Since its inception, the Party has successfully guided the country to numerous significant victories through appropriate strategies, innovative practices, and the unwavering support of its members and the people.

Within just 15 years of its establishment, the Party directed the fight for national liberation, achieving the August Revolution and establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on 02/09/1945, thereby ending colonial rule. The Vietnamese people transformed from being oppressed to becoming the masters of their own nation.

Following the August Revolution’s success, the country encountered significant obstacles, facing famine, illiteracy, and foreign invasion. Despite these challenges, the Party led the defense of the fledgling government while preparing for resistance against French colonial rule. Guided by the right strategies and national unity, the Party successfully overcame numerous adversities, culminating in the historic Dien Bien Phu victory and the signing of the Geneva Accords in 1954.

After enduring a divided nation for over two decades, the Vietnamese people, under the Party and President Ho Chi Minh’s leadership, faced the trials of American imperialism, leading to the liberation of the South and reunification—a defining moment in our history demonstrating both national significance and a commitment to unity.

As the nation dealt with the aftermath of war, new challenges arose, prompting the Party to continue leading efforts to rebuild the economy, enhance living standards, and protect the country’s sovereignty and integrity while supporting international responsibilities, especially in Cambodia.

To meet the demands of national development while addressing the shortcomings from a centralized planning system after the war, the Party adopted solutions based on practical experiences and innovative leadership strategies.

Vietnam’s Shift to Socialism: The Renewal Policy

Vietnam’s renewal policy marks a significant milestone in the country’s evolution toward socialism. This policy was initiated to adapt to the economic, national defense, security, and foreign relations needs of Vietnam, showcasing the Party’s innovative approach and ability to navigate a new developmental epoch.

Over the nearly four decades of implementing this renewal approach, Vietnam has achieved remarkable progress. Once a nation plagued by war and isolation, it has transformed into a developing country with a middle-income status, actively participating in global commerce and diplomacy. By 2024, Vietnam’s economy is projected to exceed 470 billion USD, positioning it 32nd globally and among the top 20 countries attracting trade and foreign investments.

The well-being of the Vietnamese people has significantly improved, with the poverty rate plummeting to just 1.93% from 60% in 1986. The nation has seen growth across all sectors—political, economic, cultural, scientific, technological, along with advancements in national defense and security. Vietnam’s role in international relations is expanding as it contributes to tackling regional and global challenges.

Reflecting on the achievements over the past 95 years, credit goes to the strategic leadership of the Party and the dedication of the people and armed forces. During times of hardship, the Party has demonstrated unity and resolve, guiding the nation to substantial successes across various domains.

As the Party has evolved, it has proven its competence and entitlement to lead, reinforcing the notion that only the Communist Party of Vietnam can adeptly steer the country through challenges, ensuring progress and victory.

In honoring the legacy of the Communist Party of Vietnam, we pay homage to President Ho Chi Minh, who was instrumental in this revolutionary journey. We also remember the sacrifices of leaders, martyrs, and countless individuals dedicated to the nation’s fight for independence and socialism.

The contributions of those who served the nation will always be treasured, particularly the families of martyrs, heroic individuals, and veterans. Additionally, we express gratitude towards international allies who have supported Vietnam in its quest for independence and ongoing development.

Reflecting on the illustrious history of the Party, we recognize the duties of current leaders and members within the nation’s ongoing historical journey. The Party’s mission is to bring Vietnam into a progressive era marked by wealth and strength, building a society where citizens enjoy prosperity, democracy, and cultural advancement while actively contributing to global stability.

Our goal is to achieve strategic aims for 2030, establishing Vietnam as a developing country with a modern industrial base and high average incomes, ultimately evolving into a developed socialist nation by 2045.

To fulfill this historic duty, the Party must continuously evolve, enhance its leadership, strengthen connections with the people, and maintain its revolutionary ethos. It should focus on internal integrity, promote democracy, and reinforce the tenets of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought.

Additionally, the Party needs to refine its theoretical frameworks, boost its ideological initiatives, and lay a robust groundwork for achieving rapid and sustainable growth in a globalized context. This involves addressing critical objectives such as:

  • Recognizing that the Party exists for the people’s interests, and its authority is granted by public trust.
  • Upholding the mission to advance the country’s and people’s welfare.
  • Maintaining steadfast ties with the populace and concentrating on their welfare.

From its inception, the Party has pledged to lead the revolution and advocate for the working class and the broader Vietnamese community. Its unwavering commitment to national liberation, socialist building, and enhancing citizen prosperity has been the cornerstone of its governance.

A strong theoretical foundation serves as the Party’s guiding principle, crucial for its leadership path, strategic national development, and lessons learned from 95 years of revolutionary guidance.

Ensuring national defense, security, and foreign relations is crucial for the survival and evolution of the Party.

The Party must consistently work on bolstering unity, enhancing leadership skills, and making sure that its members and organizations maintain integrity, strength, and stay closely connected with the populace.

A priority for the Party is to simplify and optimize the political system to enhance operational efficiency. Recent congresses have highlighted the necessity of cutting down administrative layers to establish a more agile and responsive governance framework, addressing outdated and ineffective systems.

The growth and global integration of the country require that our cadre system, especially for key positions, uphold high standards. Cadres should demonstrate political acumen, integrity, creativity, and a dedicated commitment to serving the public without any personal or corrupt intentions.

Advancements in technology, particularly in information technology, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation, are reshaping society. Implementing these technologies in Party building is vital for boosting the Party’s leadership skill and efficiency.

In 2025, the focus for Party organizations, branches, and members should be on leveraging their strengths and intelligence collaboratively with the people, aiming to achieve and surpass the goals set by Party committees. Special emphasis should be placed on economic and social development goals, organizing Party congresses at all levels in preparation for the 14th National Congress, contributing to Party document discussions, selecting outstanding candidates for the political system, and fostering a genuinely democratic and united environment where everyone is actively involved in work, production, and the development of their homeland.

As we reflect on the Party’s 95 years of progress, we feel immense pride and assurance in the bright future ahead. In 1945, leading the populace in the August Revolution, the Party had a mere 5,000 members. However, with the right direction and steadfast commitment to the nation, it guided the people to victory and established the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. By 1960, amidst the struggle against American imperialism, membership surged to around 500,000, positioning the Party as the central force in the fight for independence and national unity.

Today, with more than 5.4 million members, the Party’s strength continues to expand in both quantity and quality, poised to lead the nation in this new era. Each member embodies the trust, intellect, and unity of our nation. The Communist Party of Vietnam, guided by Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, is committed to achieving its historical responsibilities with excellence.

With a strong belief in the Party’s capabilities and the unity of the nation, we collectively affirm: the entire Party, alongside the people and military, will come together to overcome all challenges, propelling the nation towards rapid and sustainable development and creating a glorious future for the Vietnamese people.
