On the eve of Lunar New Year, celebrations erupted nationwide as citizens eagerly awaited the colorful fireworks heralding the arrival of 2025.
Chilly Weather in the North, Warm Festivities Elsewhere
In northern areas, temperatures dipped below 10°C, while the central region enjoyed refreshing weather.
Conversely, the southern provinces experienced pleasant conditions perfect for outdoor celebrations, drawing large crowds to the streets.
Despite the cold, Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem Lake provided a picturesque setting for spectacular fireworks, attracting many, albeit fewer due to the chilly climate.
Fireworks at My Dinh Stadium lit up the night, as couples embraced romantic moments by Hoan Kiem Lake and West Lake, reminiscing on the dazzling displays.
In Da Nang, locals and tourists gathered along the Han River to enjoy fireworks, visit spring flower exhibitions, and capture memories.
Some visited An Long Pagoda to offer incense and receive traditional gifts of salt and matches, symbols of good fortune for the upcoming year.
Further south in Ho Chi Minh City, a mild evening temperature of 23°C attracted crowds to Nguyen Hue Walking Street and nearby areas.
Excitement filled the air as onlookers anticipated fireworks set to erupt from two high-altitude sites and 13 lower ones across the city.
A captivating drone show mesmerized the audience, showcasing intricate designs in the night sky.
Distinct Celebrations Around the Country
In Can Tho, crowds convened at Ninh Kieu Wharf for high-altitude fireworks shot from a barge on the Hau River.
Hoi An shone with beautiful lanterns and floating flower garlands, creating a magical ambiance cherished by visitors, including locals and international travelers.
In Nghe An Province, villagers gathered by bonfires, sharing food and music, creating a lively atmosphere to chase away the winter chill and welcome the New Year joyfully.
Simultaneously, the SE1 train journeyed through the night from Hanoi to Saigon, with passengers celebrating as it passed through Nam Dinh.

In Hanoi, General Secretary To Lam visited veterans and citizens, sharing warm wishes and gifts.
Da Nang’s Chairman Le Trung Chinh recognized local police for their commitment to public safety during festive times.
As fireworks lit up the skies, the spirit of Tet brought joy and optimism for a prosperous Year of the Snake.

In Da Nang, locals visited pagodas to pray for peace and offer incense as the New Year approached. At An Long Pagoda, many gathered to burn incense, receiving fortune bags filled with salt and matchboxes.






Many families and couples at Ninh Kieu Wharf in Can Tho City eagerly awaited the New Year’s fireworks in cool weather. At midnight, stunning high-altitude fireworks were set to be launched from a barge, delighting thousands present.

This New Year’s Eve, Hoi An City in Quang Nam attracted a significant number of locals and tourists, all eager to ring in the Year of the Snake. The city became a magical place, bathed in the warm light of lanterns and adorned with floating candles.


After participating in the lantern release, Xuan Lan from Nam Dinh remarked, “Our family chose Hoi An for New Year’s Eve because we adore its ancient beauty, and it’s a perfect chance for a family retreat.”
Despite the light drizzle and cool weather, many foreign visitors happily snapped photos along the lantern streets.


Kim Kyung Haeng from South Korea expressed, “I’m thrilled to be in Hoi An for the Lunar New Year with my family. The vibrant yet tranquil atmosphere is unique. Celebrating New Year away from home feels truly special. I wish everyone good health and prosperity this year.”











In rural areas like Yen Thanh, Do Luong, and Thanh Chuong, locals started collecting firewood days in advance to light fires on New Year’s Eve, both to ward off the cold and to strengthen community ties.
Nguyen Ba Thao from Ma Thanh Commune remarked, “Every New Year’s Eve, we gather at crossroads and in neighborhoods to light fires. It’s a festive time filled with music, dancing, and toasting to good luck, happiness, and success in the New Year.”

The entrance to the Dragon Bridge on Bach Dang Street is also filled with visitors enjoying the flower displays.
Phuong Dung from Hai Chau District shared that her family arrived early at the flower street to celebrate New Year’s Eve. After dinner together, they plan to find a good spot to view the fireworks.
“For the new year, I hope for health, smooth endeavors, and lots of luck for my family,” Dung stated.

This year, an influx of international tourists is visiting the flower street. Luu Minh from Taiwan remarked that the decorations in Da Nang are beautifully crafted, capturing many moments during their trip.
Da Nang will host firework displays in three districts: Hai Chau, Lien Chieu, and Hoa Vang.
Earlier, Da Nang’s Chairman Le Trung Chinh visited and offered encouragement to the staff on duty during New Year’s Eve.
