Vietnamese workers will have a long public holiday lasting five days from Wednesday, April 30, to Sunday, May 4. This break celebrates Reunification Day on April 30 and International Workers’ Day on May 1. To accommodate this, employees will need to work an extra day on Saturday, April 26.
Additionally, after the Lunar New Year festivities, there will be a day off for Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day on Monday, April 7, which corresponds to March 10 in the lunar calendar. This means a long weekend from April 5 to April 7 for those whose schedule permits it.
Government staff, state employees, and businesses adhering to the standard weekend can automatically take advantage of this extended holiday. Organizations with varied schedules can adjust their holiday plans according to their operational needs.
The Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs recommends that employers synchronize their holiday plans with the state guidelines. However, businesses that are critical may still require some staff to work during these holidays.
According to Vietnam’s Labor Code of 2019, workers needed during public holidays are entitled to higher pay. Specifically, those working on public holidays during the day earn 300% of their usual wage, while night shift workers get 390% of their regular pay.
This extended holiday allows workers to travel, enjoy family time, and partake in various festive activities throughout the nation.
