Nguyen Ngoc Thao in Son Trung, Khanh Son, Khanh Hoa, is delighted with the thriving durian harvest this year, as prices soar to 82,000 VND per kilogram.

With an expected yield of over 200 tons from his 14-hectare orchard, Thao anticipates profits of around 13.5 billion VND after expenses, marking a successful year after years of durian cultivation.

Further south in Son Lam, Khanh Son, Mai Van Khang is looking at a prosperous durian season with an expected 100-ton yield from his 10-hectare orchard, estimating profits of 8 billion VND.

In Chieng Khuong, Song Ma, Son La, Bui Van Quang overcomes challenges from heatwaves impacting his longan orchard yield but compensates with higher market prices, expecting revenues of 2.4-2.8 billion VND.

The lychee harvest in Bac Giang ends with success despite lower production, with prices soaring to 55,000-110,000 VND per kilogram, resulting in record-breaking revenue of 4,814 trillion VND.

Vina T&T Group experiences export growth to the U.S. and strong demand in China for fresh durian, contributing to the overall success of Vietnam’s fruit exports.

In August alone, fruit and vegetable exports earned 750 million USD, a significant increase from the previous year, with total export revenues of 4.63 billion USD in the first eight months of 2024.

The sector aims to achieve an export revenue milestone of 7 billion USD by the year-end, driven by the upcoming high harvest season and expanding export markets.

The MARD’s efforts to access new markets for Vietnamese fruits like pomelos in South Korea and frozen durian in China are expected to further enhance export revenues.

Negotiations are ongoing to open the Chinese market to additional Vietnamese fruits like pomelos, avocados, custard apples, and rose apples.

Recently, progress has been made to allow the export of Vietnamese passion fruit to the U.S., with discussions for other fruits such as seedless lemons, guavas, and jackfruit underway.

The agricultural sector is working towards a future export revenue target of 10 billion USD, focusing on enhancing export value through advanced processing techniques to meet consumer demands.
