On November 21, MOST conducted a press conference to unveil the details of TECHFEST 2024.
This annual event, organized by MOST in partnership with various ministries, local authorities, and socio-political groups, has gained prominence in supporting startups in Vietnam.
Now in its ninth installment, TECHFEST Vietnam has established itself as a major gathering for policymakers, business leaders, and investors. The event aims to connect both domestic and international resources, strengthening Vietnam’s role in the global innovation landscape.
Scheduled to be held in Hai Phong, TECHFEST 2024 will operate under the motto “Joining Hands to Develop Vietnam’s Innovative Startup Ecosystem.” This year’s event aims to honor and highlight the progress and accomplishments within Vietnam’s entrepreneurial and innovation scene.
As of 2024, Vietnam’s startup ecosystem is positioned 56th in the Global Startup Ecosystem Index by Startup Blink, with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City earning spots among the top 200 global startup cities.
The Global Innovation Index (GII) for Vietnam illustrates favorable trends, moving up from 59th place in 2016 to 44th in 2024. Notably, Vietnam secured high rankings in three GII indicators, achieving its first milestone in Creative Goods Exports.
Furthermore, venture capital activity is on the rise, with the number of deals increasing from 77th in 2022 to 50th in 2024, and the total venture capital received elevating from 54th in 2021 to 44th in 2024.
Deputy Minister Hoang Minh recognized Vietnam’s accomplishments while also identifying areas needing enhancement to boost startups and their contributions to economic and social development. He highlighted the need for unified efforts involving ministries, local administrations, and international collaborators to enhance Vietnam’s startup environment and its global standing.
Hoang Minh Cuong, the Deputy Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee, conveyed the city’s pride in hosting TECHFEST 2024 and shared that event preparations are almost finalized.
“During TECHFEST, Hai Phong will host numerous activities, such as launching semiconductor training programs, inaugurating the Hai Phong Innovation Startup Center, unveiling a digital government initiative, and holding a forum focused on green digital transformation for socioeconomic growth,” Cuong explained.
