On January 19, General Secretary To Lam greeted a large group of nearly 1,000 Vietnamese representatives living abroad, who traveled from over 40 countries for the Xuan Que Huong (Homeland Spring) 2025 event.
General Secretary To Lam highlighted that Vietnam’s future is bright, aspiring to be a wealthy and strong nation rooted in socialist ideals, prepared to stand among global powers.
He appreciated the commitment and love of the overseas Vietnamese community towards their country, expressing hope in their expanding influence and success on the international stage. Their strong business, expertise, and intellectual networks are vital in strengthening ties with Vietnam.
Looking back on Vietnam’s advancements in 2024, he acknowledged the achievements despite various challenges, noting significant progress in economic, social, defense, and diplomatic aspects. The country has accelerated reforms in governance, workforce development, and infrastructure, while maintaining strong foreign relations, enhancing Vietnam’s global presence.
Reforms under Resolution 18 have improved the efficiency of Vietnam’s political and administrative systems, aligning them with the nation’s growth requirements.

The General Secretary reaffirmed that the nation’s goal is to build a fair, prosperous, and strong society under the Communist Party’s guidance.
“All Vietnamese must come together, seizing opportunities and overcoming challenges for national development,” he stated.
He recognized the significant contributions of overseas Vietnamese to the country’s development. He referred to Resolution 57 issued by the Politburo, which focuses on breakthroughs in areas like technology and innovation, and stressed the importance of involving both local and international experts.




That same day, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man also had a meeting with the overseas Vietnamese representatives.
With about six million Vietnamese residing in over 130 countries, the global diaspora is viewed as a vital part of the nation and plays an essential role in connecting Vietnam to the rest of the world. In 2024, remittances from this community reached around $16 billion.
The National Assembly has implemented policies to encourage investment and business opportunities for both domestic and overseas Vietnamese.
Various legislative initiatives have been introduced to motivate expatriates to return and participate in economic and social activities.
Chairman Tran Thanh Man highlighted the importance of utilizing the knowledge of overseas Vietnamese to support Vietnam’s rapid development, particularly in policy and law-making areas.
He invited the diaspora to take a leading role in boosting international collaboration, technology sharing, and innovative entrepreneurship.
Additionally, he encouraged them to uphold and share Vietnam’s cultural heritage globally, including the Vietnamese language and traditional values.
