Governor Ahmadu Finitri
Governor Ahmadu Finitri from Adamawa State has expressed his thoughts on the recent governorship elections in Edo State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced APC’s Monday Okpebholo as the victor of the September 21 election.
In a statement on September 22, Finitri shared his sorrow over Nigeria’s democratic state, labelling the election process as disgraceful.
He claimed that the electoral commission showed bias towards the APC, asserting that the nation deserves more integrity.
“I am saddened for Nigeria’s democracy after observing the disgraceful Edo Gubernatorial elections. The APC’s attempts to undermine me with false claims about results won’t deter from the primary concern. I simply relayed figures from INEC’s Irev portal, compiled by INEC across local government areas,” Fintiri stated.
”The truly disgraceful act was the national chairman of APC arriving in Edo by private jet on election day, disregarding movement restrictions, while their governors used armoured vehicles to intimidate voters.
This blatant violation of democratic principles is the real issue at hand. Nigerians are angered, criticizing INEC for their alleged partiality towards APC. Reports of vote-buying, interference during the collation process, and questionable results that exceed the number of accredited voters contribute to a decline in trust in our democracy. Democracy is indeed facing challenges.
We must denounce this assault on democracy and pursue accountability. The global community is observing, and Nigeria rightly deserves much better.”
