The senator for Kwara South, Oyelola Ashiru, has confirmed that his residence in Ilorin was raided by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
He noted that no illegal drugs or substances were found during the raid.
This information was shared through a statement released by his aide, Olaitan Adeyanju, on Monday. Previously, the NDLEA stated that they had discovered narcotics in Ashiru’s home during a raid in February, in response to the senator’s criticism of the agency’s effectiveness.
“The house was thoroughly searched, and nothing illegal was discovered,” stated Ashiru. “If drugs were found with individuals mentioned by the NDLEA, it raises questions about where these individuals were prosecuted.”
The statement clarified that Ashiru has not tried to influence the NDLEA regarding drug allegations associated with a person named Tosin Odepidian. “All names cited by the agency are unfamiliar and do not connect to the senator,” it emphasized.
Ashiru expressed concerns over the NDLEA’s timing, remarking, “It is absurd that the agency waited for my remarks in the Senate before making these unfounded claims. I have never employed anyone with the names mentioned by the NDLEA.”
He called on the NDLEA to bring anyone found guilty of drug offences to court instead of conducting a “media trial.”
“The NDLEA must take legal action against suspected drug offenders instead of resorting to public accusations,” he urged. “This statement is to correct the misinformation spread by the agency.”
Ashiru also criticized the NDLEA, stating, “It is widely known that many wrongdoers often return to crime after bribing law enforcement officials. The NDLEA should focus on identifying corrupt members rather than seeking attention through sensational claims!”
He reaffirmed his dedication to representing the people of Kwara South and promoting integrity within law enforcement institutions.
