A fully loaded Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle overturned in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, leading to injuries sustained by ten passengers on board. The incident happened shortly after the bus left the BRT park in Iyana Ipaja, resulting in traffic disruptions in the area.

Details shared by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) indicated that the bus collided with an abandoned pedestrian bridge foot just after the Iyana Ipaja bridge, causing it to tip over. Emergency services and LASTMA officials responded promptly, providing medical assistance to the injured passengers.

All the injured passengers received treatment, and authorities are monitoring their conditions. Efforts are currently underway to clear the affected lane and restore normal traffic flow, with motorists and commuters urged to follow traffic instructions accordingly.

Nosa Okunbor, the Head of Public Affairs Unit for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday. The statement outlined the sequence of events leading to the bus overturning and the response efforts deployed by emergency services.

No fatalities were reported in the accident, although many passengers sustained critical injuries and were taken to a hospital after the incident. Safety measures have been implemented to safeguard responders and road users during the recovery operation.

Collaborative efforts among primary responders aim to expedite the recovery process and restore normalcy to the BRT corridor.
