Tom FredFish, a notable figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Chair of the PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice (PAPAJ), has proposed a solution to address the ongoing issues within the party.
He has called for the Presidential ticket to be allocated to the South-South region.
In his comments, he emphasized that the ticket should be awarded to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as a means to settle internal conflicts and adhere to the party’s longstanding zoning strategy.
FredFish shared these insights at a media event in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, arguing that Wike’s strong credentials make him a viable candidate capable of fostering harmony and achieving electoral success for the PDP.
He reiterated that offering Wike the Presidential nomination for the 2027 elections is essential for restoring peace within the party.
Expressing skepticism regarding the party’s recent establishment of a reconciliation committee, he dismissed it as a “waste of resources,” questioning the committee’s objectives and effectiveness.
He stated, “The PDP should not spend its resources creating reconciliation committees without first considering zoning the presidential ticket to the South-South. Wike stands out as the only credible candidate from the southern region capable of winning elections, especially against President Bola Tinubu. Without Wike, the PDP is unlikely to hold its ground.”
“Analyzing the current political landscape within the PDP in the South, it’s apparent that the governors lack strength, and as noted by Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, the PDP NEC is also ineffective, with the BOT headed by Senator Adolphus Wabara essentially inactive.”
“No other figure in the PDP possesses the financial resources, network, and judicial access necessary to rejuvenate the party like Nyesom Wike. He embodies the essence of the party, serving as its potential savior and remedy for its challenges.”
“Given that President Tinubu relies heavily on him, the PDP should value Wike’s membership and make every effort to encourage him to run for the 2027 presidential election— even if it means offering a sincere apology for past grievances.”
FredFish asserted that only the former Governor of Rivers State can curb defections among the PDP’s governors and other key members.
He stated, “Senator Saraki needs to stop delaying the party’s progress, hoping for reconciliation. He should advocate for the immediate zoning of the ticket to the South-South, as Wike’s influence within the APC could help lure members back to the PDP from President Tinubu’s camp.”
However, he did express disapproval of Wike’s alleged duplicity and his actions that have harmed the PDP, the party that elevated his career.
The PDP leader concluded, “Awarding the Presidential ticket to Wike is crucial for the public to gauge his true character, particularly as he currently appears to be aligning with President Tinubu. The outcome will reveal whether he chooses to resign from his position as FCT Minister to pursue his presidential dreams or if he will opt to reject the ticket and persist in serving President Tinubu while undermining the party that shaped his success.”
