The former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has openly criticized the administration of Bola Tinubu, claiming it has let down the citizens of Nigeria.

Amaechi, who formerly governed Rivers State, expressed his readiness to be part of a coalition that will contest against Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.

In an interview with the BBC, he emphasized his commitment to speaking out against the government despite being affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He blamed Tinubu for exacerbating the economic struggles facing the nation.

Amaechi reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, arguing that party affiliation should not equate to uncritical support of the government.

“When the government fails the nation, simply aligning with your party isn’t the answer. That wouldn’t be just,”
he remarked.

The former minister pointed out the dire situation many Nigerians face, highlighting the pervasive hunger affecting them.

“Lives are being lost due to starvation. I, too, am experiencing the impact of hunger,” he stated.

Amaechi is generally regarded as a significant figure in the opposition coalition aiming to unseat Tinubu in 2027.

Prominent coalition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, attended Amaechi’s recent 60th birthday celebration in Abuja.

At this event, Amaechi, Atiku, and El-Rufai criticized Tinubu for allegedly exploiting poverty as a political tool in Nigeria.
