Anambra Lawmaker Abducted

Justice Azuka, the representative for Onitsha North in the Anambra State House of Assembly, has been kidnapped by unknown individuals.

The incident occurred on a Tuesday night as Azuka was driving home along Ugwunapampa Road in Onitsha, a major commercial area.

A member of the Labour Party, Azuka reclaimed his seat after a court ruling overturned the victory of Douglas Egbuna from the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 election. Following his kidnapping, he was reportedly taken to an undisclosed location.

A close friend, who wished to remain unnamed, mentioned that there has been no news of Azuka since his abduction, and the kidnappers have not reached out to his family.

Residents of the area are in disbelief regarding the incident, urging the authorities to enhance security measures.

When reached for comment, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police, acknowledged the kidnapping and assured that efforts are being made to rescue the lawmaker.

Ikenga stated, “The Anambra Police Command has activated operational plans for the possible rescue and arrest of the kidnappers of Mr. Justice Azuka, Honourable State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North Constituency.”

He further detailed that on December 24, 2024, at approximately 9:20 PM, Azuka was taken by unidentified individuals while traveling home.

The police are following leads to facilitate the rescue and apprehension of those responsible for the kidnapping, and updates will be provided as they develop.

This incident brings to mind the abduction of Mr. Okechukwu Okoye, a lawmaker from Aguata Constituency 1, who was tragically murdered last year; his head was found abandoned in the state.
