The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of attempting to cover up their tracks after allegedly rigging the Delta governorship election on March 18. Dr Timi Tonye, the Deputy Director of Media and Publicity for the Delta APC campaign organization, made this statement in a statement released on Sunday in Asaba. According to Tonye, information they have obtained shows that the state’s Commissioner for Information and spokesperson for the PDP presidential campaign council, Mr Charles Aniagwu, is concerned that the rigging could be exposed. Aniagwu reportedly asked INEC to not follow the provisions of the Electoral Law, which clearly outlines the process of collating and announcing the results of the governorship election. Tonye believes that this demand is offensive and insulting to the Delta electorate, who have been deprived of the true results of the election they participated in. He added that the PDP does not want the upload of results from across the state into the national database BVAS to be used to verify the results published by the Delta collation officers. Tonye concluded by urging citizens of the state to be vigilant and rally around the APC to protect democracy in Delta and ensure the integrity of the 2023 governorship election.
