Yemi Adaramodu, the Senate spokesperson, has characterized the opposition coalition formed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a collective of “recycled politicians” seeking only comedic effects.
As the chair of the Senate committee on media and public relations, he remarked that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains unfazed by this coalition, referring to it as a familiar assembly of seasoned political figures.
“Who’s new in this scenario? Who has recently joined?” he inquired during a press interaction.
The senator dismissed any notions that the APC was anxious following the ADC’s emergence as the favored option for opposition leaders.
“Why should we feel threatened? Firstly, it’s comprised of the same individuals,” he stated.
“Whether you were with the PDP, Labour Party, or APGA, it’s the same individuals. They have merely formed a coalition under the ADC. It’s all the same.”
“We are familiar with each other’s backgrounds, strengths, and weaknesses.”
Using a football analogy, Adaramodu compared this situation to a squad of former Chelsea players being assembled under a new team name.
“It’s like transferring all Chelsea players to Manchester United, and now Manchester City faces them, well aware of how they played as a team at Chelsea,” he explained.
“Should we be intimidated? It’s the same roster. Who’s genuinely new? Who has recently entered the playing field?”
“What fresh talent has been acquired that might complicate the APC’s efforts to secure another electoral victory in 2027?”
He further noted that while the coalition may not be a conscious joke, it certainly adds a humorous element to the political landscape.
“In the hustle of our busy lives, there are moments we must allow ourselves to find humor,” he remarked.
“Laughing and relaxing are essential; a constant state of seriousness isn’t healthy for us or for our democracy.”
Adaramodu concluded by suggesting that while these individuals aren’t comedians, their actions and claims can indeed be amusing.
“If someone has held high office for decades and claims to be in need, that scenario is amusing, even if the person isn’t a comedian,” he pointed out.
