The apprehension of Chukwuma Okonkwo and Ifeanyi Okafor (aka Arab) by the Special Squad Aguiyi in Anambra State has shed light on their involvement in child abduction and trafficking.
The suspects, both residents of Abagana, disclosed that they receive a share of the proceeds from selling abducted children, enabling them to live in luxury, giving the impression that they are engaged in fraudulent activities commonly known as Yahoo Yahoo.
One victim, a young child named Chinemerem, recounted being taken from his parents’ shop by the criminals. Fortunately, the Special Squad intervened before he could be sold.
When asked what should be done to the perpetrators, the child simply responded, “flog them,” displaying a desire for justice.
On video, Chukwuma admitted to their criminal activities, stating: “We kidnap children and sell them. There are three of us in the gang.
“Our accomplices include Chikwado from Ogidi, along with Arab and myself from Abagana,” he confessed.
Detailing their modus operandi, Chukwuma explained: “We abduct children and receive a share of the profits when they are sold.
“We also engage in theft, including stealing motorcycles for profit,” he added.
He clarified: “While people may suspect us of Yahoo Yahoo activities, kidnapping children is our primary crime, supplemented by theft.
“Our gang leader, Chikwado from Ogidi, involves his wife in these criminal activities, who hails from Awkuzu.”
