Arrest Made in Robbery Case Involving Police Officer

The police have arrested three suspects, including a police officer, for allegedly hijacking a lorry transporting 522 bags of rice from Mombasa to Nairobi in Kibwezi, Makueni County, Kenya.

Following a robbery incident in Kibwezi, Makueni County, Kenya, three suspects, one of whom is a police officer, have been apprehended by law enforcement officials. The accused are believed to have seized control of a truck carrying 522 bags of rice en route from Mombasa to Nairobi.

The Kibwezi Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted a thorough probe leading to the arrest of the suspects after the lorry, identified as an Isuzu with license plate KCY 107U, went missing along the highway. The vehicle was intercepted by a group of six armed individuals at the Thange location, who then took possession of the truck and its cargo.

One of the individuals in custody is Francis Mutiso, a police officer stationed at Kibwezi Police Station, who purportedly participated in the robbery while in uniform and armed. The other suspects are Juda Kipkoech Kandie and John Maingi.

The stolen lorry, loaded with 25-kilogram bags of rice, was later found in the Manyanga area near Kibwezi. The truck’s driver was abandoned in the Ngwata area by the robbers unharmed.

Along with the lorry recovery, authorities seized a Probox vehicle with license plate KDD 396T that is suspected to have been employed in carrying out the robbery.
