Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, is mourning the loss of Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, the Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland.
In his emotional tribute, Atiku acknowledged the profound impact of the late king, praising his bravery, assertiveness, and discipline—qualities that embody the Ijesha identity.
Atiku shared a personal bond with the late king, as his wife, Titi, is from Ilesa in Osun State, which added to his admiration for the monarch.
He fondly remembered the fatherly warmth and hospitality he received from Oba Aromolaran during his visits.
On Thursday, the former vice president posted on X, accompanied by a picture featuring himself, the late monarch, and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
Atiku conveyed his thoughts, stating, “With deep sorrow, I learned of the passing of the Owa Obokun of Ijesha land, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran.
“He was more than just a father-in-law to me; every visit felt like a true homecoming, as he treated me like a son. He was dearly loved by all.
“He personified the qualities of boldness, courage, and discipline that characterize the Ijesha people.
“On behalf of my wife, Titi, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Owa-in-Council and the entire Ijesha community, especially the royal family.
“As Oba Aromolaran returns to his creator, I pray for his soul to rest in peace.”
