Recent Arrests in Niger State: Child Defilement and Kidnapping Cases
The Niger State Police have apprehended a 20-year-old named Lukman Aliyu for the alleged defilement of a six-year-old girl in Ibeto, located within the Magama Local Government Area.
According to the police’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the incident was reported on January 30, 2025. The police were informed that the young girl returned home from school on January 29, 2025, around 2 PM, with what appeared to be bloodstains on her clothing.
Upon investigation, the victim disclosed that she had been assaulted by Lukman Aliyu in a nearby bush while she walked home from school. Following his arrest, the suspect allegedly admitted to the crime.
In a separate incident, police have also arrested 27-year-old Genesis Yaryok Sunday from Ungwar-Gwari in Tafa Local Government Area for reportedly kidnapping his neighbor’s six-year-old son.
The missing boy was located in the Jere area of Kagarko Local Government Area in Kaduna State a few hours later, around 3 PM. He was subsequently taken to a local police station before being handed over to the Tafa Division of the Niger State Police.
During the ongoing investigation, Genesis Yaryok Sunday was identified as a neighbor of the victim’s family. He is said to have confessed to taking the boy with the intent to demand a ransom of N200,000 from the child’s mother to pay off his debts.
Both suspects have been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further inquiries.
