‘Avengers: Endgame’: Marvel Fans Gush Over Video of Brie Larson and Scarlett Johansson Embracing on Set

The Marvel Cinematic Universe brought in Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers with her own solo movie, Captain Marvel, just before the record-breaking smash that was Avengers: Endgame. Now, a behind-the-scenes clip shows an interaction between her and star Scarlett Johansson from their first time on the set together that has many fans praising their friendship.

As these characters, the two actors were first seen together in a Captain Marvel post-credit scene. In it, Carol, who has presumably been busy on other planets over the past 20-some years, comes face to face with the Avengers, including Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff. She discovers that they were the ones who paged her using the device she gave Nick Fury many years prior after they found it following the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

In Avengers: Endgame, the two continue to interact. Carol is able to bring back lost Avenger Tony Stark, and she wins over many of them in the above scene. After accompanying them to kill Thanos, she becomes a part of the team, often working with Natasha, who is now the de facto leader of the group. At the end of the movie, following Natasha’s death, Carol helps them defeat Thanos once and for all.

Larson and Johansson were able to do a couple of press events together in the time leading up to the release of Avengers: Endgame. At the premiere, they both even donned similar Infinity Gauntlet-inspired jewelry. However, it was their joint appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that really had people talking.

The talk-show host asked them if they had met prior to filming the movie. As it turns out, they were in the 2013 film Don Jon together. Johansson cited this as the first time they met, but Larson hadn’t counted that, saying, “I felt like I was basically a glorified extra and you were Scarlett Johansson.” But they have a lot in common, as both started as child actors. And they seem to have developed quite a rapport.

Fast-forward to 2020. The co-stars were reunited at the Academy Awards, at which the Larson was a presenter (as a past winner herself) and Johansson a double Oscar nominee. A few months later, in celebration of the Avengers: Endgame‘s first anniversary, a virtual watch party was held. And the directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, shared a clip of the two.

“This was @brielarson’s first day ever as Captain Marvel,” they wrote of the scene in which the Avengers travel to “the garden” to kill Thanos. “And here’s a quick video of her greeting the cast for the first time.” In the clip, Larson says hello to Johansson, giving her a hug.

Marvel fans on the sweet moment

Both actresses have received more than their fair share of hate from the internet. However, the overwhelming response to this clip was positive. “THIS IS TOO PURE,” wrote one Twitter user. “I never knew I needed this interaction till now,” wrote @wandabewitched.

And still more followed. “We needed more Carol/Nat content,” wrote @Comic_BookKing. User @PaigeRaya called the actresses “friendship goals.” Others pointed out that this was the first time Larson had ever played the character, as it was filmed prior to Captain Marvel. Needless to say, it looks like she and Johansson enjoyed the others’ company from day 1.
