Nollywood actress Ebun Hodo has shared her thoughts on the role of talent versus attractiveness in the film industry.
She believes that while beauty and sex appeal may attract initial attention, they are not sufficient for achieving a lasting career in Nollywood.
“In my view, beauty and sex appeal alone won’t lead to success in Nollywood. It’s often said that ‘Many are called, but few are chosen,’” she mentioned in her interview with Potpourri.
Ebun underlined the importance of talent and skill in ensuring an actor’s continued relevance in the industry.
“Are you truly among the chosen few? Do you have a deep understanding of your craft? Can you portray roles convincingly?” she raised important questions.
She further refuted the idea that mere looks could guarantee success.
“If that’s all you have, then I’m afraid your charm won’t take you far in Nollywood, aside from perhaps using shortcuts like juju,” she added.
Hodo remarked that the industry demands more than just superficial beauty.
“In Nollywood, it’s talent and hard work that truly count. You need to bring genuine qualities to your work—be it passion, diligence, or a strong commitment to your art—because physical appearance only goes so far,” she concluded.
