Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani quickly became fan favorites when they began dating around four years ago. The pair of iconic singers were both recently divorced: Shelton from Miranda Lambert, and Stefani from Gavin Rossdale, also the father of her three sons.
Shelton and Stefani met while serving as judges on The Voice in 2014, but their competition eventually turned to something more flirtatious. Since then, it looks like things have gotten increasingly serious between the two, who now spend time together both in California and Shelton’s home state of Oklahoma.
Most recently, Shelton even told The Tennessean in an extended interview that Stefani didn’t just have an impact on his music and personal life. In fact, he told the outlet, she helped him find his way back to himself and his faith.
Shelton called the timing of his relationship with Stefani ‘just too weird’
Shelton told The Tennessean that he had begun to think his career in country music might be waning when he unexpectedly won the CMA Single of the Year for his new song “God’s Country” at the 2019 CMA Awards. The win gave him renewed hope, and he reflected on Stefani’s role in the amazing changes in his life.
Shelton said that the timing of his relationship with Stefani was so incredible that, to him, it represented God’s work. “I believe in God now more than I ever have in my life,” he explained to the outlet.
The singer continued, “The biggest part of that is just how [Gwen] came into my life and now our relationship. It’s just too weird. If you take God out of it, it doesn’t make sense. If you put God into it, everything that’s happened with us makes sense.”
The 41-year-old superstar also told the outlet that he had become a regular churchgoer because of his 50-year-old girlfriend, saying that she had inspired him to “turn a page” in his life.
Stefani and Shelton will soon release a new duet
In the interview with The Tennessean, Shelton also revealed that he and Stefani will soon release their latest duet, “Nobody But You,” on his forthcoming album, Fully Loaded: God’s Country, out on Dec. 13.
This isn’t the first time the two The Voice coaches have collaborated musically. Stefani also featured Shelton on her romantic Christmas song “You Make it Feel Like Christmas” in 2017. They also paired up for the poignant duet “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” on Shelton’s album If I’m Honest in 2016.
The country superstar said the song is perfect for this time in his life
Shelton told The Tennessean that he was stunned when he first heard “Nobody But You” and immediately knew it was meant for him to sing with Stefani, even calling it “as important of a song as I’ve ever recorded.”
He explained, “I was just floored. I realized how important that song was for me, and where I am in my life right now. I think that’s why Shane was trying to get it to me because he knows enough about my personal life … to know, ‘This has got to get to Blake because it fits his story.’”
Of the highly anticipated duet, Shelton also gushed to Nashville Lifestyles, “The lyrics of that song are so on point, not just for me and Gwen, but I think for a lot of people. The song is not a fairytale, but at the same time it’s the most epic, earth-rattling love song I’ve heard in a long time, because the lyrics are so honest and just say it how it is.”
