A Federal High Court in Lagos has rejected a rights suit by Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, known as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a previous request, Bobrisky sought N200 million from the EFCC for mental anguish and N1 billion from the National Assembly for a breach of his right to a fair trial.
He also aimed to have the court restrict the EFCC and National Assembly from any harassment, detentions, or making him a wanted person.
This case gained attention following an allegation from social media figure Martins Otse, who claimed that Bobrisky had paid the EFCC N15 million to dismiss money laundering allegations.
Judge Alexander Owoeye found that Bobrisky’s assertions regarding rights infringements were baseless and lacked substantial evidence.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale detailed this in a statement on Friday.
“Upon reviewing the evidence presented, it is clear the Applicant has not provided sufficient proof to warrant the reliefs he sought,” the judge stated.
“The claims of fundamental rights violations against both the 1st and 2nd Respondents have not been substantiated by the evidentiary material submitted.”
“Thus, I conclude that the Applicant’s claims are meritless and dismiss them,” the ruling concluded, with Justice Owoeye also denying any damages against the EFCC.
