Even though Carole Baskin seems eerily calm while discussing her ex-husband in Tiger King, body language expert Bruce Durham shared that Baskin’s gestures reveal that she might be hiding something.
“When she was asked about threatening him before his disappearance, she compresses her lips,” Durham explained, per the U.K.’s Mirror. “This is a universal sign that at that particular moment there’s a narrative going on inside your head — there’s something not being said here. It’s like she wants to say something but stops herself. We don’t know what she wants to say but I would have noticed that and would have been questioning her about it.”
Durham also noticed something interesting when Baskin was asked why she never had a memorial for Lewis. “There’s no looking down, when we’re searching for emotion, we look down and we search for memories — but she looks straight ahead at the interviewer,” Durham said.
In Tiger King, Baskin recalls receiving the letter about Lewis being declared dead. She says she got the letter in the morning and the next thing she knew, it was nighttime. However, Durham says, she “doesn’t tell us why and there’s no emotion there, so what else was she thinking about?”
The Mirror reported that Durham couldn’t say for sure whether Baskin had anything to do with Lewis’ disappearance. He does, however, have some follow-up questions for her, as did many viewers!
