Nigerian artist Brown Joel has addressed misunderstandings surrounding himself and his fellow musicians involved in the popular track “Ogechi.” He emphasized that they should not be labeled as the “Ogechi boys” since they are not a collective.
In a recent clip, Brown Joel stated: “We are not a collective. We are friends and solo artists. There’s no formal agreement connecting us as a group.”
He also made a pointed remark regarding streaming statistics, saying: “At a live show, it’s real people who will sing for you—not just online numbers.”
Brown Joel portrayed himself and his collaborators as independent performers rather than members of a structured ensemble.
