Oh my gosh, it’s happening. Everybody stay calm. To fellow ARMY around the world, how are you doing? BTS just announced their comeback album titled Map of the Soul: 7. To quote the dog in the fire meme, “This is fine.”
BTS’s comeback album drops in February
So when does the highly-anticipated album drop? Map of the Soul: 7 comes out on Feb. 21, 2020. Pre-orders for the album begin on Jan. 9, 2020. The BTS_official Twitter account tweeted details of the album with a link to the official announcement on Weverse.
The Weverse announcement for the comeback album reads:
“Hello. BTS MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 will be released on Friday, February 21. Pre-orders will begin on Thursday, January 9. Additional details about the new release will be available on BTS Weverse and the Fan Cafe. We look forward to continued interest and support from all of our ARMY. Thank you!”
What is the significance of the name?
Turns out we were all clowns and the album is not called Map of the Soul: Shadow or Map of the Soul: Ego. Yet this name seems even more fitting than Shadow or Ego.
For every awards show this season, BTS has placed an emphasis on their past eras. At the 2019 Melon Music Awards, BTS foreshadowed that Map of the Soul: 7 will return to the HYYH era. Before their performance of “Dionysus,” each member of BTS received a solo dance number that showcased their individual styles.
The group first debuted in 2013, and 2020 marks their seventh year together. There are seven members who each have individual personalities, journeys, and musical styles. Map of the Soul: 7 could represent that BTS as a whole will always be seven members while also emphasizing the members as individuals.
There is no doubt BTS’s ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ will be huge
As soon as the comeback album was announced, multiple hashtags about the album trended on Twitter including #MAP_OF_THE_SOUL_7, #BTSIsComing, and #7isComing.
BTS spent a long period of time working on this album. During their acceptance speeches at awards shows, the members spoke highly about their work. It’s clear the musicians are confident in their artistry and the music Map of the Soul: 7 will deliver.

“We’re working on our next album now, and I think we’ll be able to put out an even better album than you’re expecting. Please look forward to it a lot. Thank you,” Jimin said during BTS’s acceptance speech for Album of the Year at the 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards.
Based on BTS’s awards show performances, record Daesang wins, and the number of times BTS’s discography has charted worldwide in the past few months, the response to Map of the Soul: 7 is bound to be unprecedented.
Fans have a little over a month to prepare for BTS’s new album and upcoming tour. If the hype surrounding the announcement is any indication, the world should prepare for BTS to break even more records with Map of the Soul: 7 and possibly deliver their best album to date.
