Even if you were living under a rock for the past month, you’d still know who Baby Yoda is. He’s a global phenomenon, a national treasure, and a hero to many (probably). He hasn’t done a lot in The Mandalorian, but when he has used the Force, he’s proven to be pretty powerful already. Longtime Star Wars veteran, Anthony Daniels, has played C-3PO since the original film in 1977. So if anyone knows how to treat beloved Star Wars characters, it’s him.

Anthony Daniels says Baby Yoda deserves to be treated responsibly
In an interview with Huffington Post on Dec. 11, Daniels talked about the upcoming The Rise of Skywalker, answered a ton of questions about his character, and talked about his book, I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story. Since he really can’t divulge a lot of info about the new movie, he talked about this fictional galaxy, including the newest addition to the canon: Baby Yoda. “Ah, Baby Yoda. It had to happen. It had to happen just before Christmas,” he said. “Baby Yoda is the thing, maybe the toy of the month, the year, whatever. Yoda is such an adored character created by Frank Oz, and obviously now we are looking back at origins.”
He went on to talk about the franchise’s “inventiveness.”
Do we need a smaller Wookiee? I don’t know. I love the inventiveness with Star Wars, the creative inventiveness that Star Wars has fostered over the years, whether it’s with the technicians or with fans. And of course, some of the fans now work on the movies because their abilities are so great.”

It’s true; people are clamoring about this creature online and dying to get their hands on all the new merch and toys (which won’t even come out until next summer). But Daniels warns that with an adorable alien comes great responsibility. “Baby Yoda is cute, gorgeous, but I would warn the public that Baby Yoda is not just for Christmas. It’s a responsibility.” You heard it here: just like you should by a puppy for the holidays without thinking of it as an adult, you also should cherish Baby Yoda forever. Don’t cast him away when you get bored!
C-3PO has a bigger role in ‘The Rise of Skywalker’
In the same interview, Daniels spoke about C-3PO’s role in The Rise of Skywalker. “Finally, C-3PO comes back to be a part of the action as he was in Episode IV, the original, and that feels really, really, really good and satisfying,” Daniels said. “To be in such a huge production as this, master-managed [and] masterminded by [J.J. Abrams] and the crew, it’s been like a prize at the end of the journey.”
Daniels did appear in both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, but in a few scenes. C-3PO hasn’t really had a big effect on the arc since the originals.

Daniels asked Abrams to give C-3PO a death
One thing that fans noticed with the first trailer for Episode IX was C-3PO’s emotional words. He says that he’s taking “one last look” at his friends, which either means they’re going to wipe his memory or he’s not planning on making it past a battle. Interestingly, Daniels asked director J.J. Abrams to kill C-3PO off.
“Before filming this, it seemed like the writers had slightly run out of steam with C-3PO. I didn’t want him to just become a wall decoration,” he said. “I thought he should have a big send-off or send-off that gave you finality, and of course, at the time, J.J. said ‘no way.’”
Whatever happens to Threepio, he’ll always be fondly remembered as the voice of reason in Star Wars (which is also why his Baby Yoda advice is so on point).
