Twelve students from Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo, who were among the accused in the alleged murder case of their fellow student and Prince from the Warri kingdom, Akro Jeffery, have been acquitted by the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan.
The legal proceedings began on June 5 where the 25 students were brought before the court to answer to charges related to the incident.
The case has been adjourned to July 8 for further updates by the presiding judge, Ogunkanmi.
During the hearing, the Prosecutor, CSP Funke Fawole, explained to the court that the accused students were involved in the incident that occurred on May 24 at 9 p.m. within the university premises.
Fawole detailed that the defendants were accused of causing the death of Jefry Akro, a 22-year-old student, by physically assaulting him with planks and electrical wires.
Additionally, it was noted that one of the accused, Oladoye, who was a security guard, allegedly failed to intervene and prevent the fatal attack on Akro.
The charges brought against the students were in violation of specific sections of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
