The House of Representatives Committee on University Education has urged the leadership of Federal University of Lafia in Nasarawa State and Federal University of Health Sciences in Otukpo, Benue State, to use their resources wisely.
During a recent visit, the Chairman of the House Committee on University Education, Abubakar Hassan Fulata, highlighted the importance of efficient utilization of resources for the success of these institutions.
Fulata cautioned the universities against unauthorized spending and emphasized the role of the National Assembly in appropriation of funds.
Member of the committee, Victor Afam Ogene, stressed the need for prioritizing student welfare and security within the universities.
Following the oversight visit, the Vice-Chancellors of both universities, Prof Shehu Abdulrahaman of Federal University of Lafia and Prof Innocent Ujah of Federal University of Health Sciences, acknowledged the insights gained and expressed gratitude for the committee’s support.
Prof Ujah emphasized the universities’ commitment to upholding professionalism and international standards, while also addressing challenges such as high electricity costs, for which they seek government intervention.
