Changes in Leadership Roles within the Lagos Police Force

CSP Egbeyemi Removed As RRS Commander

The Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Yinka Egbeyemi has been replaced as the Commander of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

Egbeyemi, who took over as RRS Commander in December 2020, will now be working in the force command.

CSP Shola Jejeloye, the former head of the Lagos Taskforce, has been appointed as the new leader of the RRS, succeeding Egbeyemi.

It has been announced that Egbeyemi will be transferred to the administrative department of the Lagos State Police Command.

This development comes after Egbeyemi’s term of over three years as the head of the RRS.

Egbeyemi is set to formally pass on his duties to Jejeloye on Friday, who will assume the position of the new RRS commander.

Furthermore, CSP Adetayo Akerele has been named as the new Chairman of the Lagos Environmental and Special Offenses Unit (Taskforce), previously serving as the BRT Lane Monitoring and Enforcement Commander.

During Egbeyemi’s leadership, the unit has been active in enforcing traffic laws, focusing on confiscating vehicles that violate traffic rules, a task falling under the Taskforce’s mandate.

The unit has also impounded motorcycles (okadas) and transported them to the RRS office, actions that were not explicitly part of their duties.

Under Jejeloye’s leadership at the Taskforce, there was a noticeable rise in the apprehension of okada riders, leading to the destruction of a substantial number of their motorcycles.
