Deceived Into Marriage with a Mentally Unstable Man and Stripped of Custody of Her Son by In-laws

A woman named Chioma Chukwudi Anabunovu has come forward with allegations that her in-laws orchestrated her marriage to their mentally challenged son in Okoh, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

 

Chioma spoke out after her 2-year-old son was forcibly taken from her by her in-laws and she was allegedly mistreated before being evicted from her husband’s home.

 

This is not the first time such events have occurred, as Chioma’s mother, Ngozi Chukwudi Anabunovu, usually intervened in the past to reconcile the situation until the recent incident.

Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, the media aide to the Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo, confirmed the rescue of Chioma’s son and revealed that Chioma had her son out of wedlock before the ill-fated marriage that lasted approximately six to seven months.

Chioma expressed that her husband is mentally unstable and clarified that she was deceived into the marriage due to already having a son from a previous relationship.

After the government intervention and the return of her son, Mrs. Paulina Ezenwadike, the instigator, challenged the government’s actions, but subsequent inquiries by the Women Affairs department corroborated Chioma’s claims about the custody situation.

Chioma expressed her gratitude to the state authorities for their assistance in reuniting her with her son upon being reunited with him.
