The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has reported that a fire has engulfed shanties located in the Surulere area of Lagos.
Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed this incident in a statement shared with journalists on Saturday.
He stated that LASEMA was alerted to the situation via the emergency toll-free numbers, 767 and 112, at approximately 01:18 AM. Following this, a response team was promptly dispatched from Onipanu.
Upon reaching the scene at around 01:31 AM, the team discovered that several makeshift shanty structures near a canal were ablaze.
Initial investigations indicated that the fire ignited in one of the rooms and rapidly spread to adjacent rooms.
The Permanent Secretary affirmed that thanks to the efforts of emergency responders, the fire was contained effectively.
“No injuries or fatalities were reported during this incident.”
He added, “The blaze has been fully extinguished, and search and rescue operations have been completed.”
