Early Sunday morning, a fire broke out at a structure containing 10 rooms and several shops in Omu-Aran, which serves as the administrative center for Irepodun Local Government Area in Kwara State.
According to the fire service spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle, the incident was reported at approximately 07:02 hours at the Ilaro Compound.
He noted that the fire service received an urgent call and responded quickly.
“Our firefighting team arrived to find a 10-room structure with four shops fully ablaze,” Hassan reported.
“We took immediate action to combat the fire and protect adjacent properties. Thanks to our intervention, we managed to save eight rooms and two shops, with reported damages limited to two rooms and two shops,” he explained.
Furthermore, Hassan indicated that initial assessments suggest the cause of the fire was a power surge.
Prince Falade John, the director of the state fire service, recommended that the public stay alert and prioritize safety measures to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
