Disney’s photo-real remake of the animated movie, ‘The Lion King’ premiered in 2019

Over 20 years passed since the original The Lion King premiered. In 2019, Disney remade their film with CGI technology and an cast of A-list actors. The movie starred Donald Glover (adult Simba,) Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (adult Nala,) James Earl Jones (Mufasa,) Seth Rogen (Pumbaa,) and Billy Eichner (Timon.)

“Everybody’s got their own formula. I’m not saying this is the way you do it, but it’s the way I’ve done it,” director Jon Favreau said during an interview with Variety. “You don’t want to reinvent it completely. You want people to see it and be able to say, ‘I saw The Lion King.’ Just like when I went to see the play. I went to see the play. I had seen the movie, and I said, ‘I saw The Lion King.‘ Now the play is an hour longer and has different songs, different scenes but somehow it captured the essence of the film. You would casually say it’s the same exact story.”

In its time at the box office, the movie surpassed the $1 billion mark, becoming one of the year’s most popular movies, alongside films like Frozen 2 and Avengers: Endgame. Soon, fans will be able to stream this movie anytime, thanks to Disney’s subscription service, Disney+. Recently, the company announced the 2019 version of The Lion King will premiere on Disney+ during January 2020.
