Ayo Fayose
Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, has shared his thoughts on the ongoing turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He believes the crisis stems from the fallout of the party’s defeat in the 2023 elections, compounded by the arrogance of certain individual members.
Fayose expressed that divine intervention is necessary for the PDP to regain stability. In an interview with TheNation, he noted, “Elections are in the past, and the G5 network is behind us. The repercussions of our loss are still affecting the party, and the mismanagement and arrogance of some members are contributing factors.”
He remarked, “When the leader falters, the entire party suffers. It will require a miracle for the party to heal. Frequent suspensions and disagreements indicate deep underlying issues that must be resolved.”
He emphasized that identifying specific individuals involved isn’t productive, stating that “the party is greater than any single person. The deterioration is pervasive, and politics should focus on collective interests.”
Fayose acknowledged the significant challenges ahead and insisted that a collective introspection is essential to prevent future failures.
When questioned about whether the tensions between Nyesom Wike and Atiku Abubakar are to blame, he affirmed, “The past does indeed have a way of influencing the present. Everyone seems to be vying for power, which is typical in political arenas.”
He criticized the lack of communication within the party, stating, “When was the last time the party held a NEC meeting? We only see reports of suspensions and members leaving, which is quite unfortunate.”
Furthermore, he highlighted that some believe Wike’s ambitions to lead the party have exacerbated its current struggles.
