Sheeran seems to benefit and recharge from occasional breaks, his last one being in 2015. The fruit of that break was some amazing music, so we’ll see what this current vacation yields.

Find out what’s behind Sheeran’s declaration and what he plans on doing in his time off.

Sheeran was recently named the UK No. 1 artist of the decade

This distinction for the songwriter by his homeland isn’t surprising considering how many great songs Sheeran has recorded over the last ten years.

Martin Talbot, the chief executive of the Official Charts Company stated, “Ed truly has dominated this decade and is a worthy recipient of this amazing new award. At the start of the decade, he was a little known (albeit highly rated) young 18-year-old lad from Suffolk – but his catalog of achievements since then are genuinely remarkable. Today, he is firmly established among the highest level of global music superstars.”

For his part, Sheeran is thankful for the incredible honor, posting on Instagram, “Thank you to everyone who’s supported me over the past 10 years, especially my amazing fans. Here’s to the next 10!”

He kind of had already announced it

Sheeran’s fans are likely saying, “Again?!” to the Perfect singer’s announcement.

At the final stop of his Divide tour in August, the ginger singer told fans of his intention to enjoy some time off from writing and performing.

“As you may or not know, I’ve been on the Divide tour for over two years now and this is the last day of the whole thing,” he told the crowd in Ipswich, England, according to The Sun. “There is something very bittersweet about it.”

“I love that you guys are here and we are ending it in Ipswich,” he continued. “This is my last gig for probably 18 months.”

It seems that the tour was more arduous than the singer had thought it would be.

“We’ve played all around the world,” Sheeran said. “Glastonbury, Wembley Stadium. All these amazing venues, America, New Zealand, Australia, Asia, South America—it’s been a wild one.”

“I was told before I came on that, now, at the end of this tour, I’ve played to nine million people around the world. It is the biggest tour ever.”

Here’s what Sheeran said about his upcoming break

Sheeran announced on Instagram his intention to take another break from music and social media.

Just following two days after the release of his music video of his new single, Put It All on Me, the singer let his followers know about his upcoming vacation from it all.

“Hello all. Gonna go on another break again,” he said. “The Divide era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see some more of the world.”

“I’ve been a bit nonstop since 2017 so I’m just gonna take a breather to travel, write, and read. I’ll be off social media until it’s time to come back.”

“To my family and friends, see ya when I see ya – and to my fans, thank you for always being amazing, I promise to be back with some new music when the time is right and I’ve lived a little more to actually have something to write about.”

“Lots of love x,” Sheeran he ended his Instagram post.
