APC Chair Praises Edo Election Process
The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Edo State, Jeret Tenebe, expressed optimism regarding the recent Edo governorship election, praising the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) handling of the process.
Tenebe characterized the election as exceptionally fair and dismissed accusations of vote rigging on behalf of their candidate, Monday Okpebholo. He made these comments during a press conference held on Sunday.
He emphasized that if INEC maintains the same standard in future elections, Nigeria could see significant improvements in its electoral practices. Tenebe stated: “Our party cannot rig election, because we are not INEC. The elections we saw yesterday are the fairest ever conducted in this state. We pray INEC continues like this; it means the country will advance towards a better electoral process.”
Furthermore, he highlighted that Okpebholo’s governance would focus on development, particularly empowering women and youth. Tenebe noted that the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Asue Ighodalo, was largely due to the influence of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
He added: “This victory is for Edo state and everyone here. It signifies a lot for us. Okpebholo will foster development, enhance opportunities for the youth and women, and strive for unity within the state. There will be no disregard for traditional leaders.”
Tenebe concluded by stating that the former governor’s influence has diminished, averring, “Nobody wants to touch Obaseki.”
