On Thursday, March 23, 2023, the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested 28 people suspected of being “Yahoo-Yahoo Boys” in Ilorin, Kwara State. According to a statement from the antigraft agency, the arrests were made in Mandate Area, Ilorin based on intelligence about the activities of fraudsters in the area.
The identities of those arrested include a cleric, Toheeb Albarka; twin brothers Lambe Kehinde and Lambe Taye; 6 students from various institutions; a mining operator, Olaleye Solomon; a computer technician, Akinade Samuel; a real estate developer, Damilola Shagaya; a graphic designer, Muhammed Awal; an anti-money laundering analyst, Adam Mubarak; a tiler, Ogundiran Nathaniel; a printer, Jamiu Ishola; a plumber, Dauda Tunde; a Bet 9ja agent, Abdullahi Sikiru; a web developer, Kasali Afeez Adegoke; a wears/shoe dealer, Jordan Adeyinka; and a driver, Ojeniyi Boluwatife. The other suspects are Francis Stephen, Olabode Yusuf, Musbaudeen Akorede, Moshood Okunola, Kayode Aderemi, Ayobami Olorunfemi, Paul Ayomide, Agboola Marvellous, Adebisi Olatunde, Adedamola Samson, Olarewaju Adisa Taofeek, Adewale Oloro and Omogbolahan Ibrahim.
The EFCC seized ten exotic cars, various laptops and cell phones, and a printer from the suspects. Investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be brought to court once they are completed.
