Recently, an individual suspected of being an electricity vandal was electrocuted while trying to steal transformer cables owned by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.
In a statement released by Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications of EEDC, it was revealed that the incident occurred early in the morning on Friday.
Ezeh expressed deep concern over the frequent attacks on electricity installations by vandals within the EEDC’s network on a daily basis.
It was reported that the lifeless body of the alleged vandal was discovered near a distribution transformer belonging to EEDC in Missionary Avenue, Coal Camp, Enugu.
It is presumed that the individual was electrocuted while in the process of cutting the armoured cables as power supply was unexpectedly restored.
The issue of vandalism poses a significant challenge to the company and requires the cooperation of key stakeholders to effectively combat it.
Addressing the impact of criminal activities on the company, Ezeh stated that such actions not only disrupt service quality for customers but also affect revenue.
Additionally, EEDC refuted claims made in a video circulating on social media by Mazi Okechukwu Cyril Nwuche, who falsely alleged that the company was offering free prepaid meters to customers.
The statement clarified that while EEDC encourages customers to apply for meters, it is essential for them to have accurate information and understand the process for acquiring meters.
