Fayose Advises Atiku to Exit Politics
Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, has advised Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential hopeful for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to consider stepping back from politics.
Fayose believes that by the time the next presidential election occurs in 2027, Atiku will be too advanced in age, as Nigerians are looking for younger leadership.
In a discussion with TheNation, Fayose emphasized the importance of knowing when to leave the political arena while still appreciated by supporters.
He stated, “Atiku Abubakar, with all respect, should think about stepping aside from contesting elections again at his age.”
“When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu completes his term, Atiku will be nearing 80. At that point, what incentive would there be to run? We should exit while the applause is still loud. The desire for leadership from younger generations is evident. So, what grounds does Atiku have for wanting to run again?”
“I’ve maintained that defeating the APC is possible, but without a functioning party, how can that happen? If you are critical of the APC yet lack a party, what strategic steps can you take?”
“Currently, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in the last election, is emerging as a significant voice of opposition. So, where does that leave the PDP? The party is essentially lost!”
