Femi Fani-Kayode Cleared of Forgery Charges in Court Ruling

Court Discharges And Acquits Femi Fani Kayode Of Forgery Case (via Primetweets)

Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Aviation Minister, was found not guilty of 12 charges related to obtaining a falsified medical report by the Special Offences Court located in Ikeja, Lagos, on February 4.

During the ruling, Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) did not possess the authority to prosecute Fani-Kayode for these particular allegations.

The judge concluded that the claims against him did not constitute an economic crime and that there was insufficient evidence to connect him to the alleged offenses.

The EFCC had accused Fani-Kayode of recruiting Dr. Ogieva Oziegbe to produce a counterfeit medical report, which he allegedly submitted in an ongoing money laundering trial at the Federal High Court with Justice Daniel Osiagor.

Additionally, the Commission argued that Fani-Kayode, on October 11, 2021, in Kubwa, Abuja, collaborated with Dr. Oziegbe to create a document titled ‘MEDICAL REPORT ON Olufemi Fani Kayode 60 YEARS/MALE/HOSP. NO.00345,’ which they claimed was falsely issued by Kubwa General Hospital.

Furthermore, they asserted that creating and using such fraudulent documents violated Section 369 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.

Despite the accusations, the former Minister maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty.
