Four Men Sentenced to Death by Hanging for Armed Robbery and Kidnapping

On Thursday, March 23, four men were sentenced to death by hanging by a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja. The convicts, Victor Chukwunonso, Ifeanyi Maduaka, Obinna Nwankwo, and Richard Nwabueze, were found guilty of armed robbery and kidnapping Mrs Gloria Emole on November 19, 2012. The prosecution was able to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. The men were charged with three counts of conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping, which are punishable under Sections 297, 285 (2) a, and 291 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015. Mrs Emole was kidnapped from her home at 7 Unity Street, Ogudu GRA, Lagos and was released after her husband paid a ransom of $70,000. Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo sentenced the men to 10 years for the first count of conspiracy, death by hanging for the second count of armed robbery and 21 years imprisonment for the third count of kidnapping.
