Government and NLC Finalize Agreement on Proposed 50% Increase in Telecom Charges

Agreement signed by top officials

The federal government, led by Tinubu, along with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has formalized an agreement regarding the proposed 50% increase in telecom tariffs.

This agreement was established on Monday during a meeting focused on the concerns surrounding the hike in telecommunications costs.

Signatories to the agreement include Sen. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Muhammadu Dingyadi, the Labour and Employment Minister; Joe Ajaero, the NLC President; and Emmanuel Ugboaja, the NLC General Secretary.

It’s worth noting that the NLC previously opposed this tariff increase and had planned a nationwide protest for February 4.

As part of the agreement, both parties will form a technical group aimed at addressing the various contentious points raised during the negotiations.

This resolution entails the creation of a joint committee composed of five representatives from both the federal government and the NLC.

The committee is tasked with completing its discussions and presenting findings within two weeks.

Both parties have urged citizens to remain patient while this process is underway. (NAN)
