Reports indicate that Shagari Ebije’ego Job, the traditional chief of Itama in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, was tragically murdered by gunmen at his home in the town. The assailants followed the monarch, known as the youngest traditional ruler in the area, to his residence on Monday evening and opened fire on him.
According to a resident named Adukwu Ajibili, who witnessed the incident, unidentified gunmen arrived in the town and began shooting at the chief’s residence. This act of violence caused panic and chaos in the community, leading many residents to flee to nearby villages for safety.
Describing the sequence of events, Ajibili mentioned, “His assailants, armed with weapons, were spotted driving towards the traditional chief’s residence in the town around 9 pm on Monday. Shortly after, the sound of gunshots echoed, causing people to run in different directions for their safety. It was only after the gunmen departed that we realized His Royal Highness had been fatally wounded in the attack.”
As of now, the Kogi State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Williams Aya, has not released any official statement regarding the incident.
