Some love him for his singing voice, others love him for his big heart. As the resident “Prince Charming” of BTS, Jimin is one of the main vocalists and dancers. He’s kind towards fans but he also has a silly side, showcased with his jacket-hood-moment during the group’s New Years’ Eve performance. Here are a few of our favorite moments from Park Jimin.
Jimin became the first solo K-pop artist to have three songs reach over 50 million streams on Spotify
This singer hasn’t released a solo mixtape, like J-Hope and “Agust D.” However, he’s already breaking records for Korean artists in the music industry. With BTS, Jimin released a handful of songs as a “solo artist,” including “Intro: Serendipity” and “Lie,” and “Serendipity (Full Length Edition).”
All three songs surpassed the 50 million play-mark on Spotify, making Jimin the first idol to reach the milestone as a solo artist. The next artist to come close to this is Psy, known for his song “Gangnam Style.” (He has two songs over the 50 million play mark.) However, when Jimin is performing with BTS, he really shines.
He went to school for dance, even showing off his talent during the BTS MMA performance
According to Billboard Magazine, before he was in BTS, Jimin studied contemporary dance at Busan High School of Arts, where he was a top student in the modern dance department.
The K-pop idol had a chance to show off his dancing skills during the group’s 2019 MMA performance. He did a solo dance performance to the song, “I NEED U,” and, of course, fans shared their love for this performance on social media.
Jimin, and the rest of the BTS boys, are very into philanthropy
When he’s not rehearsing or performing, Jimin is helping his community and even giving back to his elementary school. According to Koreaboo, “Jimin‘s childhood school, Hoedong Elementary School, closed after 36 years. At the graduation ceremony, Jimin made a personal donation to pay for the school uniform costs for every one of the school’s graduating students.”
As a group, BTS partnered with the non-profit group UNICEF to create the “Love Myself” anti-violence campaign. According to its website, this campaign raised over $2 million United States dollars, as of November 2019, and encourages “preventive measures” against violence.
This singer also has a silly side, coining the ‘Jimin Jacket’ moment during ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest’
Sure, he’s hardworking and dedicated to BTS. That doesn’t mean Jimin doesn’t like to have fun and be silly. During the K-pop group’s performance at Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest in Times Square, Jimin had a sparkly jacket that wasn’t exactly working with him. At one point, it flipped onto his head and instead of taking it off right away, he kept performing with his makeshift hood.
One fan joked on Twitter, “when people start asking, ‘who’s the one with…’ we now have a new ending to that question – ‘…the jacket stuck on his head?’”
Music by BTS, including their most recently released album Map of the Soul: Persona, is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and most major streaming platforms.
