Human Rights activist Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (Senior Advocate of Nigeria) has written to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, informing him of a planned nationwide protest against hardship and hunger.
In a letter dated Friday, July 26, 2024, Adegboruwa, acting as the solicitor to the Take It Back Movement, disclosed that public meetings, rallies, and processions organized by the movement and other concerned Nigerians are scheduled to take place from August 1 to 10, 2024, or thereafter in various locations across the country.
The letter also emphasized the need for police presence during the protests and requested details of police officers or teams to be assigned to cover the events to coordinate plans effectively.
Despite warnings from security agencies like the Department of State Services (DSS) cautioning against the demonstrations by identifying sponsors and expressing concerns about potential violence, the organizers maintain their right to peaceful protest.
In response to the planned protest, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declared the capital off-limits for demonstrations, while the police have deployed 4,200 personnel in preparation for the events.
